René Lalique enjoyed significant commercial success in selling glass desk wares. The items were not particularly necessary in terms of functionality but they were fashionable in the early decades of the 20th century and sold well.

Still life by Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell (1883-1937) soared to a sensational £400,200 in our summer auction of Scottish Paintings & Sculpture. The June 2023 sale posted a market-leading total of over £1.73 million.
John Duncan Fergusson and Margaret Morris first met Martha Lawrence Grant (1916-96) when the latter attended Morris’s dance classes in Glasgow in the 1930s. She became a vital figure in Margaret Morris Movement.
Cadell introduced Peploe to the Hebridean island of Iona, off Scotland’s west coast, in 1920 and they returned there most summers for the rest of their lives.
