Lyon & Turnbull hosts three Contemporary Art sales in our Edinburgh headquarters each year, including during the Edinburgh Festival – the largest arts festival in the world. In addition, we position works by leading international contemporary artists within our twice-yearly MODERN MADE sales held in London, one of the major hubs of the international art world.
Lyon & Turnbull has one of the largest teams of fine art specialists of any UK auction house, with expert teams based in both Edinburgh and London. Our Contemporary sales are characterised by strong results and a high selling rate, maximising the value for our clients above the industry average.
We sell works by leading international artists, covering all the major post-war movements including Abstract Expressionism, Minimalism, Pop, Arte Povera, Conceptualism, Neo-Expressionism and the YBAs. We are equally interested in re-discovering artists who are perhaps not as well-known as they should be and unearthing forgotten avant-gardes from outside the mainstream.
Given our history and sales locations, we specialise in British Art from the post-war era to today. Lyon & Turnbull are widely considered to be the ‘go to’ auction house for Scottish contemporary art, from John Byrne, John Bellany, Elizabeth Blackadder and Barbara Rae, to the ‘New Glasgow Boys’ - Peter Howson, Ken Currie and Steven Campbell – through to the likes of Alison Watt and Callum Innes.
All sale results shown are inclusive of buyer’s premium.
