Lyon & Turnbull’s Ceramics & Glass department offers a range of fine ceramics and glassware at auction throughout the year, selling online and in person at our Edinburgh and London auction houses.
Our Five Centuries auctions, held quarterly, offer a prime venue for a variety of pottery and porcelain works ranging from 16th century Italian maiolica, 17th and 18th century delftware to well-known 18th and 19th century manufacturers like Chelsea, Bow, Worcester, Wedgwood, Meissen and Sevres, among others. 18th & 19th century glass also features prominently in these auctions, and as Scotland’s oldest auction house, we are uniquely positioned to offer Jacobite glass in our annual Scottish auction.
Arts & Craft, Art Nouveau and Art Deco ceramics and glass are sold in our bi-annual Design Since 1860 auctions, which focus on design after 1860, and frequently include works by major makers like Tiffany & Co., Clarice Cliff, Moorcroft, and Ruskin, while our annual auction dedicated to Wemyss is always popular with collectors.
Highlights include unrecorded Italian Istoriato Maiolica Dish attributed to Nicola da Urbino, which sold for £1,263,000; The First Fleet and the Sydney Cove Medallion by Josiah Wedgwood at £45,200; a Nymphenburg porcelain dinner service, after the Perl service designed by Dominkus Aulizcek, for £13,750; a pair of Chelsea porcelain finger bowls and stands for £27,500; the Grand Duke Michael Mikhailovich suite of Russian Imperial glass for £47,875; and the ‘Leith Goblet’ a large 18th century double spiral twist stem glass from the Beilby family of Newcastle bearing a dedication to the town of Leith which brought £13,145.
