Born in 1866 in Shrewsbury, Georgie Gaskin (nee. France) worked as a jewellery designer and children’s book illustrator.
Whilst studying at the Birmingham School of Art she met her husband Arthur Joseph Gaskin. The pair married in 1894 and both were founding members of the Arts & Crafts movement at the Birmingham School of Art. They worked together on jewellery, with Georgie quoted as saying she produced the designs and Arthur worked on the enamelling. ‘Mr & Mrs Arthur Gaskin’ was the couple’s trading name, and they worked first in Acocks Green in Birmingham before moving to Olton, Solihull.
Georgie also worked independently, on both jewellery and illustrations, however the scarcity of signed works makes attributing jewellery works solely to her challenging.
