Andrew Henderson Leith Fraser KCSI (14 November 1848 – 26 February 1919)
Born in Bombay, he was educated at Edinburgh Academy, but returned to the Indian Civil Service in 1871 achieving first the role of Chief Commisioner of Central Provinces in 1899 and then the Lieutenant Governor position in 1902.
He lived his later years back in Edinburgh in the New Town at 22 Heriot Row and is buried in Dean Cemetery.
The town of Hooghly was a major commercial centre and the largest port in Bengal until commercial enterprise focus shifted to Calcutta.
