Footnote
The 42nd Royal Highlanders also known as the Black Watch were deployed to India following the Crimean War to primarily quell the mutiny of 1857, which was to become the first attempt in India for independence from British rule. Furthermore, their role was to help alleviate pressure from the East and in particular the threat from Russia who also were embarking on an unstable political climate.
Colonel Algernon George Arnold Durand who presented this trophy was a Political Agent within the Gilgit Agency which was implemented to impose British order in native-ruled states and appease the threat from the Russians.
