painted in green, purple and blue, painted WEMYSS WARE
This size and design of plate is rarely illustrated in exisiting reference sources. In the Wemyss Ware book, by Davis and Rankine, on page 47 there is a circa 1920s photograph from a Robert Heron & Son catalogue which incudes in the photograph and 'Grapes' bread and butter plate. Page 114, plate 234 in the same book illustrates a 'Purple Grapes' bread and butter plate. In the Bellamy Collection book, page 91, a preserve jar painted with purple and green grapes, bears a note that this is a rare design, the only example seen by Bellamy.
