Note: This work was painted during a two month long stay at the invitation of the Norwegian Government at a then recently established Artists' Colony at Ekely on land gifted to to the State by Edvard Munch and where he himself had his Winter Studio. The small nude is a study for a much larger oil that was included in the 1963/4 exhibition '14 Scottish Painters' (and illustrated in the catalogue) shown at The Commonwealth Institute in London and at Kelvingrove Art Gallery in Glasgow . Other artists were Blackadder, Henderson Blyth, James Cumming, Eardley, Gillies, Houston, MacTaggart, Maxwell, Michie, Morrocco, Philipson, Redpath and William Wilson.
