Note: Educated at Christ’s Hospital, Halloran entered the Navy in 1781 but was gaoled for stabbing and killing a fellow midshipman. He afterwards posed as a clergyman becomng a chaplain in the Navy and in 1805 was on the Britannia at the Battle of Trafalgar. His bizarre career continued after expulsion from the Colony of the Cape of Good Hope via transportation to Australia via England for forgery where he also earned his living passing himself off as a clergyman based on forged letters. In Australia he established a school and a weekly paper called the Gleaner. He died in 1831.
