Note: Royal Burghs received their burghal privileges direct from the Crown and as a consequence enjoyed various advantages both political and economic. Edinburgh received its royal charter around 1125. The merchants as Burgesses ran burgh affairs. Craft guilds established themselves under the Burgh Seal of Common Cause. Hatters and Skinners were first in 1473 and 1474. A full translation in English accompanies the lot.
