Note: Although much of Dresser's furniture could be described as 'Anglo-Japanese' his work also reflected influences from Early English furniture and from Egyptian, Islamic and Greek sources as well as honesty of construction, angularity and simplicity. Dresser was editor of the Furniture Gazette from 1880-81 when the design of the present lot appeared within its pages.
