Footnote
Carine Neutjens is a Belgian artist whose work in glass is deeply evocative of natural elements such as lava or coral and possess a vulnerability that is rooted in organic forms. Born in 1956, Neutjens began her engagement with glass in 1995 when she enrolled in ceramics and sculpture classes at the Academie Mechelen in her home town. Her signature use of the pâte-de-verre technique enables Neutjens to create sculptures that appear almost living due to their glistening texture. Neutjens’ work represents the creative spirit and sensibilities of contemporary craftspeople working today, through to her dynamic vision and intimate application of technique.
