Footnote
Note: The form is inspired by the Chinese rice spoon, but the exact purpose of the English porcelain rice spoon is unknown. The plain shape and flat handle made them difficult to use, except as a small ladle. The same shape of spoon with a pierced bowl was probably used as a sifter spoon.
