Auction: Five Centuries
one a large square plaque carved in relief with the Henryson-Caird crest of a dexter hand fesseways couped at the wrist holding a six-point star ensigned with a crescent arg, above two coats-of-arms, the first with motto 'Virtus Sola Nobilitat', the other with motto 'Nil Desperandum Est' with the later inscription below 'M.A.C.J., 1922', within a moulded border; the other a lintel carved with thistles and the initials J.A. and A.M. centred by the monogram HC for Henryson-Caird

Note: The lintel bears the monogram for Henryson-Caird, and the initials of James Alexander and his wife [Alice] Mona. It was most likely installed during the renovations to baronialise Cassencarie beginning in the 1880s. The large plaque bears the crest and coats-of-arms of Caird and Henryson, the initials and date M.A.C.J. 1922 were added to record the birth of Murray Alister Cooper James Henryson-Caird (d. 1988). It can be seen in archival images installed in the arcaded hall in Cassencarie.
