Note:
Will Maclean is renowned for his boxed ‘Constructions’, composed of re-presented found objects. Inside their wooden case, the context of each talismanic piece is at once removed and re-imagined, investing each ‘Construction’ with its own elusive mythology, heritage and narrative.Maclean was born in Inverness in 1941, and attended Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen. In the late ‘60s and ‘70s, he spent time at sea working as a fisherman, an experience that influenced his subsequent practice profoundly. During this period he produced over four hundred drawings, which were later acquired by the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art. In 1981 Maclean was appointed lecturer at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design. He became a Professor of Fine Art in 1994, and now works as Emeritus Professor.
