Biography:
Mark Demsteader grew up in the busy and bloody environment of Manchester Meat market, where his father ran a butchery business. Always passionate about art, he undertook foundation courses as a teenager but he struggled to find a place in an art world dominated by conceptual art. It was the 1990s before he began to pursue more art more purposefully, working as a school art technician by day and painting, and attending courses by night. He was offered a spot in a group show, and sold all six works entered, giving him the boost he needed to pursue his art full-time. Since then his career has flourished, with exhibitions across the U.K. He has worked on a number of successful and high-profile collaborations, including with the model Erin O'Connor, Royal Ballet Principal Marianela Nuñez and actress and activist Emma Watson.
