Albumen-print photographic title-page, mounted on card, and 29 albumen-print photographs, all on card mounts with printed captions (in English and Hindi) and numbering (comprising numbers 2-4, 6-8, 11-12, 13-14, 16-18, 20-25, 29-31, 33-36, 38-39, 43; 11-12 on the same mount, the rest all mounted individually), approx. dimensions from 18.5 x 24cm to 27.5 x 34.5cm, mounts browned, friable and variably chipped and damp-stained (with extensive loss to mount of title-page), a few photographs detaching from mounts

The pictorial title-page and a selection of the plates from an extremely rare work of 19th-century Indian photography. The complete work had 27 pages of text and 45 photographs in all; the full title as given on the letterpress title-page was The Temples of Satrunjaya, the Celebrated Jaina Place of Pilgrimage, near Palitana in Kathiawad.
