Lewis’, on Magdalen College Oxford stationery, dated 1952), front free endpaper, ownership inscription ‘Delmar Banner, Josephine Banner, Christmas 1961, for each other’ and related annotations including address (Little Langdale) and notices of repeated readings (e.g. 'D read Jan 1962 twice (the book invites it)'), annotations throughout the text, dust jacket clipped at top corner of front flap while retaining price at bottom corner

Delmar Banner (1896-1983) was a German-born British artist who studied at Cheltenham, Oxford and Regent Street Polytechnic before settling at Little Langdale in the Lake District with his Brazilian wife and fellow artist Josefina Alys Hermes de Vasconcellos.
