Footnote
Note: The Manual of the Mustard Seed Garden (Chinese 'Jieziyuan Huazhuan') was the most influential printed manual of Chinese painting of the early Qing Dynasty.
The first part was first published in 1679, comprising five fascicles, the second and third parts were added in 1701. It continued to play an important role in the Edo period in Japan, and was later updated by Chao Xun (1852-1917), whose version is usually the basis for modern reprints. The present set comprises one fascicle of text, one on the painting of trees, one on hills and stones, one on people and houses, and four on flora and leaves.
