Two Edinburgh Institutions
The Royal Scottish Academy, established in our founding year of 1826, is a prominent supporter of art and architecture in Scotland. As an independent and non-governmental charitable institution, it is governed by its esteemed Members. These Members, known as Royal Scottish Academicians, are distinguished artists and architects who are elected by their peers to govern the Academy democratically. The Academy firmly believes in the inherent value of creativity in art and architecture for the betterment of the nation.
The RSA Exhibition Award
As part of our on-going commitment to supporting the wider Scottish artworld, we are proud to partner with the Royal Scottish Academy to award the Lyon & Turnbull award, a £1,000 award for a painting or work on paper that our Fine Art team select from the RSA Annual Exhibition. The event is Scotland's most comprehensive showcase of contemporary art and architecture and has held a significant place in the institution's calendar for the past 197 years. Throughout its evolution, the exhibition has served as a vital platform for Scottish artists and architects, as well as international creatives. It has become renowned for its inclusion of topical and political elements, allowing artists to express their uncensored and independent voices.
