Trevor Kyle is a consultant valuer for both the Silver and watches departments and the Valuations team.
Trevor’s interest in art and antiques started at the young age of 10, while being taken round sales with his father who collected paperweights and ivory. This developed into a more general interest and a small part time job after school and at weekends with a local auctioneer in Fife. A great learning curve, listening, watching and a lot of handling of everything from general furniture to paintings, silver and anything else that would come to the small local auctioneer.
House sales in the 70s, 80s and 90s were a more common occurrence and Trevor went to view as many as possible. One of his earliest was the great sale at Mentmore. It was a complete eye opener and was an inspiration to learn more about the finer aspects of art and the applied arts. This also saw the start of his library which reflects his main interest of silver, jewellery but has now been extended to other disciplines, and an extensive collection of past auction catalogues going back to 1786, thanks to lockdown, now sorted and catalogued and easier to use.
After leaving school he worked full time for the same auctioneer before moving to Phillips where he ran the valuation department, and the jewellery & silver sales. This continued until 1999 when he left Phillips to become part of the team breathing life back into Scotland’s oldest auctioneers, Lyon & Turnbull. He stepped back to become a consultant in 2018.
