The Beatson Pebble Appeal raises funds in support of the team of cancer researchers at the University of Glasgow. Donations to the Appeal ensure that future generations benefit from more effective treatments and that fewer people go through the pain of losing a loved one to cancer.
Professor Sir Michael Bond, Chair of the Medical Fund at University of Glasgow, has played a leading role in the Beatson Pebble Appeal, and says “We are pleased to be working with Lyon & Turnbull on the sale of the painting. Thanks to the support of our donors, the process of translating pioneering cancer research into effective treatments is happening at a faster pace than ever before.”

Scientists in Glasgow are currently working on ground-breaking research projects that will transform the way patients with cancer are treated. Glasgow is leading the way in developing new precision medicine techniques which aim to treat patients earlier and more effectively. Professor Sir Michael Bond continued by saying that “The funds raised through the sale of this painting will help us to recruit and retain world-leading scientists and fund vital pieces of equipment and technology.”

The Beatson Pebble Appeal was established in 2008. The first phase of the Appeal raised £10 million to help build the Wolfson Wohl Cancer Research Centre, which is located at the Garscube Campus in Bearsden. This is the first translational cancer research centre in Scotland and is helping to speed up the process of translating cancer research into new and improved treatments for patients.

Campbell Armour, Director of Lyon & Turnbull said “We are delighted to be selling this beautiful painting by such a well-known Scottish painter on behalf of such a worthy cause during our Scottish Paintings Auction in December. Scottish artists are seeing a huge growth in popularity and we have achieved many world record prices, which I hope bodes well for the sale of this particular McTaggart.”
