Highlights from our 20 June Jewellery, Silver & Watches auction spanned the decades, proving that it is not just the antique pieces which are catching the eye of buyers. Prices achieved throughout the day were strong, as interest came from both local and international buyers.
Highlights included an early 20th Century seven-piece tea and coffee service by the Crichton Brothers (lot 142), a service of this size and in such good condition being unusual to the market today, it realised £3,125.

However, antique silver also proved popular on the day, one of the highlights of the sale hailing from 1680, a fine Charles II Tazza (lot 275) bearing the arms of the Staunton family, which achieved £6,000. Also, lot 196, illustrated at left, a Victorian silver gilt dessert service realised £3,375.

Following on from the silver, jewellery also garnered a great amount of interest, and again both antique and modern pieces caught the imagination of the bidders in the busy room. Lot 322, a diamond set jabot pin, reached £5,625, and along with lot 438, a 1930s opal and diamond set ring, proved that demand for striking items of good quality from the first half of the 20th century remains high. The opal ring in particular, set with a natural black opal displaying a vibrant play of colour, generated much interest, eventually selling for £5,000 to one of the many phone bidders competing with those in the room.
