An Evening in Memory of Florence (Flo) Marshall (1936-2015)
It is with much sadness that the team at Lyon & Turnbull record the death of a much loved colleague, Florence (Flo) Marshall. She was a fiercely loyal and long-standing member of the company, serving with Phillips for over twenty years before being instrumental in the re-birth of Lyon & Turnbull in 1999.
Almost everyone who visited or dealt with Lyon & Turnbull since then is sure to have been welcomed by Flo’s feisty wit and charisma. Her memory of clients over many years was absolutely legendary. Always conscientious and keenly persistent, to her great credit the company had very few bad debts - her Irish charm managing to disarm even the worst offenders!
All would agree that there is now, and always will be, a sense that something is missing in the office and at the cash desk (always Flo’s domain) in Edinburgh. Flo was usually the first to arrive at the office and often the last to leave, in spite of her long commute from Bearsden. She always taking a great interest in her colleagues and their families, forever “Auntie Flo” to so many generations. The much loved matriarch of the Lyon & Turnbull family, she will be hugely missed by her colleagues and many clients.
“Flo was the mother of Lyon & Turnbull. An irreplaceable treasure.”
Flo's husband, Alan, arranged her funeral at short notice for Saturday 28th March - a non-working day, recognising that her friends and colleagues from across the world of art and antiques would want to be at her funeral en-masse to say their farewells.
As a result, it was realised that many, many of her friends throughout the art world would not be able to pay their own respects to her. With this in mind a memorial evening celebrating her unique and warm hearted contribution to the antiques trade, in Scotland and beyond, has been arranged. Everyone is welcome and it is hoped this event will provide an opportunity for all to share their own special Flo Marshall stories. Please let us know if you would like to join us. Refreshments will be provided.
